61 cm (w) x 61 cm (h), oil paints on cotton canvas.
Date produced: 1981-1982
This painting was produced from a drawing I did in Tasmania (shown just below). The drawing was done outside, directly from a real scene ("en plein air"). I understood that Vincent van Gogh produced a number of his full colour paintings from his own drawings, or from monochrome prints that were produced by other artists.
I enjoyed the challenge of developing my drawing and providing suitable colours, even though I was no longer living in Tasmania when I produced this painting. The sky in particular was based on the type of drawing and brushwork I had seen in paintings by Vincent van Gogh.
