This image started out as a random squiggle. Quite a bit of experimenting took place, and eventually a focus began to appear. From then on, more work was applied to enhance that focus. I enjoy this type of picture-making. It is a very free approach compared with starting from an idea to express and developing the image based on that expression. I see the latter approach to be generally much more important and the way I normally work, but the former approach has its charms.

I tried to create enjoyable interplays between the bold colours, the types of ‘marks’, and the randomly oriented shapes.
