Drawn on-site, in the Adelaide Botanic Gardens. This huge River Gum tree grows near the little creek running through the gardens. Its trunk is massive.

I drew this to record the magnificent tree, but also to express an idea - of this huge organism growing up powerfully into the brightly lit open sky. That is why I have drawn in a ‘felt’ structure of the space within the sky behind the tree. I am pleased with the result. I believe one can get a good idea of the size of this tree from the drawing – something that is not easy to express with an image without an obvious comparative element, such as an adult person standing next to the tree.
